We all want our inventory to look high-value. That’s one of the key reasons why it’s important to develop a visual merchandising strategy! But how can you enhance the perceived value of your products without breaking the bank?

Don't let budget constraints or time limitations deter you from showcasing your products with pride and integrity! In the following tips, we’ll share our top tips and tricks to help you increase the perceived value of your products:

Tip #1: Apply general presentation standards in your daily checklist.

Your products should always be crisp, clean, and fingerprint-free before your customers walk in. Reserve some extra time during closing to steam your fabrics, dust any surfaces, and most importantly, find the best lighting to glorify your products. Allow your customers to feel the “freshness” of your products!

Tip #2: Keep your products off the floor.

With the exception of footwear and large appliances, putting your products on the floor can degrade the items and your brand image. Instead, keep your products on proper surfaces or risers so your inventory can look clean and appealing to customers.

Tip #3: Embrace the negative space.

Give ample negative space around your products so they seem more “precious.” Think of boutique layouts that prioritize spacing for a less congested feel. The more abundant in units, the lower the value seems.

Tip #4: Out with the old!

Regularly remove aged or damaged fixtures, furniture, risers, and sign holders. Keeping these damaged props will degrade the image of the business. This will also affect your customer’s perception of your brand, and therefore, your assortment too.

Tip #5: Communicate the key features.

Use informative graphics and visuals to communicate the unique features of your products. Model shots and feature highlights will also enable your customers to understand the value and usage of each item.

Tip #6: Forget about the price tag!

Be sure to present the featured items first, not the price tag. If you’re looking to perceive a higher value, your prices should not be the first thing customers see, with the exception of aged goods you’d like to push out the door to make room for new arrivals.
